It’s wicked Wednesday. Hump Day. The week is half over. Time for a wicked indulgence. Comfort for a bad day or celebration for a good day. You earned it.
Today’s wicked indulgence: Movie Night – the magical cure for depression, worry, anxiety, stress.
Going to the movies is fun. It is the ultimate indulgence. Movies offer an escape into a bigger, brighter world where you can see new and different things. Glamourous actors portraying a whole new lifestyle. The unsurpassed entertainment of snacking on a bucket of hot buttered popcorn, watching a gorgeous movie on a huge screen, and sipping an icy cold soda. Movie watching is very pleasurable.
It’s the middle of the week and you need to escape from life for a few hours. You need a harmless distraction and some good, safe entertainment. Watching a movie can make the dreariness of life disappear. It can diminish your sorrows and problems and even make them disappear for a few hours.
A good movie can take you to a totally different world. It’s escape. You see things you have never seen before and you watch people do things you would never think of doing. While your attention is focused on watching the movie, you forget about everything else. Thoughts are directed to the movie. Time doesn’t exist. Aches and pains are forgotten. Problems are forgotten. Anxiety is subdued. You are not even aware that you feel relief.
Watching a movie helps release emotions. You may experience a multitude of emotions during a two hour movie. It can make you laugh. It can make cry. It can make you sad. It can make you happy. Laughter lowers blood pressure and causes blood vessel to dilate – similar to the effect you get from exercising. Sad movies can make you feel happy about what you have. Intense or traumatic movies trigger the release of pain killing endorphins which can increase tolerance to pain.
Popcorn is essential. Munching on popcorn reduces stress. It relieves the muscle tension in your face. The carbohydrates in popcorn release serotonin which will help you relax. It smells so good. It is the perfect snack: hot, buttery, salty. Try not to think about the calories. Some movies theatres are offering more and more foods to enjoy while watching. Pizza and alcoholic beverages are available at some theatres.
Solo movie watching is great. I do it all the time and I see many other people watching alone. Sometimes your usual movie partner is busy or doesn’t want to see the movie you are craving. No problem. Really, no one will even notice and you’ll forget all about it after the movie starts.
Going to a movie with friends or a date is an amazing experience. It is a chance to bond. Sharing is bonding. When you share a movie with a friend, you share laughter, astonishment, and tears. Bonding and attachment occur. Warmth, affection, and respect are created. Holding hands, sharing a tub of popcorn, and feeling the resulting emotions is very romantic and cozy. Discussing the movie afterward will enhance and enlighten your relationships.
Movie night at home is awesome too! Cuddle up with your whole family for an enjoyable night of movie watching and popcorn eating.
Movie Night will make you feel rejuvenated, relaxed, and happy!
