Life is messy! You think you have everything under control and life changes on you. Sometimes it is a good change and sometimes it is not so good.
This is a story about three women struggling to be the best they can be in difficult situations. Zoe has just broken up with her boyfriend and is very lonely. She reaches out to her friend, Jen, who has become inattentive and unfriendly. Jen is obsessed with of trying to be the perfect mother and housewife. Zoe reestablishes a friendship with Jen’s mother at a Pilates class and they become good friends. The lives of the three women begin to intertwine. Zoe meets and begins to date Jen’s brother Steven. Pam,who has been widowed for two years, meets Zoe’s very handsome and attractive father. Sparks fly and complications arise resulting in some very interesting and entertaining conflicts.
I loved the characters, the pets, and the real life situations of this novel. The dialog is so funny and engaging. The characters are so real. They have problems and stresses. They make mistakes. They don’t always do the right things. They get angry with each other. It is sweet how they try to solve their problems by being honest and true to themselves. I think that is a very important concept for women. Everyone has an extremely cute cat or dog. Pam has a sweet, little Chinese Crested dog that wears the cutest clothes! The story goes back and forth between the three main characters so something new is always happening and there is even some hot, steamy sex near the end.
The most important themes of this book were personal growth and the importance of friendship. Each of the three women were trying to overcome obstacles to their happiness. To be happy, the women needed to change the things they could and accept the things they could not change. It was a very difficult thing to do alone, but with the help and support of their friends, they were able to get what they needed.
