I chose a bad day to start this diet!
I need to lose some weight. I am having terrible hunger pangs and some “roid” rage from a cortisone shot I received last week for my injured knee. My legs are a little swollen and achy and I am retaining water. It is a gloomy, rainy day and my mood is iffy. I’m going to do this diet because I know that if I can lose a few pounds, I will feel better.
Morning coffee – I cheated by adding a splash of milk, two sweeteners, and a dash of vanilla extract. It tasted like ass!
Breakfast: I had peanut butter toast and substituted a glass of 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda for the grapefruit. I drank two glasses of water. Surprisingly I did not get hungry until 3 pm in the afternoon. I distracted myself with shopping which was fun but did cause my legs to ache even more.
Lunch: 1/2 cup of tuna on a piece of toast with a sliced apple. Then I “cheated” with a cup of sugar free jello. I drank another glass of water.
Dinner was late. I had a piece of grilled chicken that was not good and a cup of green beans. The chicken was very rubbery. I ate 1/2 of a banana. Then, I cheated with a cup of sugar free jello.
I was so hungry! I just had to not eat until bedtime. I found a package of Wyler’s Light Leonade in the cupboard. I added it to a glass of water. It was only 5 calories. It was delicious! Then I drank a second glass of water.
My favorite clock broke and I had a little “roid” rage episode. I threw it across the garage and broke into a million pieces which I will need to clean up tomorrow. I was feeling a little weepy. I love that clock.
Bedtime arrived and I ate 4 ounces of vanilla ice cream at 120 calories.
I lost 1 pound. Ugh! I was expecting to lose more. However, I am not ready to quit.
Morning coffee: Screw it! I bought some stevia which is allowed and added a splash of Coffeemate. It still tastes like ass.
I am in a good mood. I am not hungry. I feel a little shaky. I am going to delay breakfast until I return home from returning some of the stuff I bought yesterday.
Late Breakfast: One scrambled egg on dry whole wheat toast with half of a sliced banana. It was a good shopping trip. I returned some pillows that were the wrong color and a dress I didn’t like. Then, I bought a new yearly planner for inspiration and three new summer dresses and a cardigan for vacation. I love shopping! It makes me feel so good! (I may be developing a shopping addiction.)
Lunch: One boiled egg, 3 slices Sargento cheddar cheese, and 5 whole-wheat Ritz crackers. I savored every bite. The cheese and crackers were delicious. I settled down on the couch to rest my knee and watch the first episode of Howard’s End on STARZ. Howard’s End is a very good miniseries.
Dinner: Two sliced Ball Park hot dogs, 1/2 cup steamed carrots, and one cup green beans. I also substituted 1/2 cup blackberries for the half banana. I ate dinner very slowly, savoring each bite. Eating slowly seems to be more satisfying. I drank several glasses of water including one glass of sugar free pink lemonade.
Bedtime: One cup of vanilla ice cream.
I did not sleep well and my knee is still swollen and painful. I did not lose any more weight. I am very frustrated but not ready to give in. This will be the most grueling diet day. I will supplement with sugar free jello and drink more water.
Plus, a tropical storm is heading toward Cuba and Florida this weekend, possibly impacting my vacation.
Breakfast: Two slices Sargento Thinly Sliced Cheddar Cheese, 5 whole-wheat Ritz crackers, and a sliced apple. Delicious!
Lunch: A miserly piece of whole wheat toast, a boiled egg, and an apple.
I am starving. I have had two sugar free jello cups and am drinking a Diet Pepsi. I am craving a tall, frosty Coors Lite beer.
Dinner: Substituted a hamburger patty and green beans for the tuna and banana. A burger and green beans was actually less calories but different food group. We’ll see tomorrow. I am eargerly awaiting my ice cream at bedtime.
Bedtime: 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream.
I am sipping a cup of delicious creamy, sweet coffee this morning, while basking in my almost 4 pound weight loss. Yes, it is probably just water loss, but it feels good.
It is very important to avoid overeating in the next few days. Avoiding salty and sugary food is key. I will need to research 1400 calorie daily meal plans and figure out what to eat for the next few days. I know I will gain weight on the cruise and be back to square one when we return.
I love the military diet for the following reasons:
1. It is easy to follow a restrictive diet for the short period of three days. The end is always in sight.
2. The diet is cheap and easy and involves very little preparation and cooking.
3. The diet makes it easy to drink plenty of water as it helps reduce hunger pangs.
4. When your meals are small, you learn that eating slowly is more enjoyable and satisfying.
5. Rewarding yourself with a cup of ice cream at bedtime is the perfect incentive for sticking to the diet.
6. Sugar free jello and drinks can sooth hunger pangs although technically sweeteners are not allowed.
7. A three day restrictive diet can reset your appetite.
8. Less is more when it comes to eating.
9. The Military Diet Blog has a four day off menu plan and lots of tips for weight loss.
