It looks like another beautiful day! It feels like Indian summer here in central Illinois. We have had a hot, dry, sunny week. I’m not complaining. I love the sunshine but the heat makes me want to stay inside.
I’m feeling a little cranky today. I could really use a good night’s sleep. I am in a cycle of waking up between four and five o’clock in the morning. I am wide awake, my brain is working full time, and I want to get up and get started on my new day. If I get up, I feel exhausted by noon and am needing a nap. If I try to go back to sleep, I can lay in bed for several hours trying to get back to sleep. A quarter tablet of xanax relaxes me enough to get back to sleep but I do not like to take it everyday. I guess sleep deprivation is here to stay.
According to my friends, this a common problem. They have a lot of advice. Get some sunshine when you first wake up to help reset your body clock. Check in with your feelings throughout the day so you don’t feel stressed out at night. Don’t worry about getting back to sleep because it just makes it more elusive. Meditate. Eat or drink a little something with protein before going to bed. Use a sleep hypnosis recording to get back to sleep. Read a boring book for a few minutes. Yoga. Essential oil. Try taking melatonin, magnesium,or calcium supplements. Eat a teaspoon of honey before going to bed. All good ideas but I just don’t want to be waking up at 4am everyday. I’ll experiment with some of these things. I guess I am going to need to start a sleep journal.
It seems funny that I get this problem every fall and spring.
Life is so busy.
Anyway, I am happy and I love my life. I am in a good mood. I am a little stressed out about finding time to stock my eBay store this week because we have some fun activities planned and I want to continue doing my one hour exercise video. I need to buy more groceries. Work and pleasure – very hard to balance. Time certainly is a valuable commodity.
Weekly Goal: Relax, Work, Enjoy
I need to relax, have fun, and get my work done.
I am from that generation of people who feel they must earn their leisure by working first – the “Work now, Relax later” philosophy. How else can you get your work done? I mean, if you relax first will you be able to motivate yourself to get your chores done? If you start working will you have time to relax. It is a paradox.
The problem: I have a lot of work to do this week. When I have a lot of work to do, I forget to take breaks. I forget to drink water. I feel driven to finish tasks and get stressed out about it. I skip the fun things I could be doing.
Music, scheduled breaks, rewards.
I like to turn on the radio when I work. Lively music improves my mood and productivity. It helps my concentration and keeps me moving. It feels like I am having fun while working. I have found a free app for five minute meditations. I’m going to set alarms throughout the day to remind me it is time to do one. Five Minute Escapes is amazing and it is free.
- I am thankful to be included in a great group of girlfriends. we had a lovely dinner last week and an enjoyable time sharing our lives with each other.
- I felt so cherished when my husband took me out to dinner for our anniversary. He is so sweet.
- I am so pleased with my two sons. One of their childhood friends passed away and my boys were very concerned about the welfare of his parents and siblings. They made phone calls and sent flowers.
- I love my new eBay Store. It boosts my self-esteem and gives me something interesting to do.
- I love the way my husband treats his ailing mother. He is so charming and attentive. He openly shows his love for her.
Hope you have a wonderful week!
